Tanto and Wakizashi

An 8” blade version in Crucible CPM-4v at .275” thick, full thickness to the blade and tang, with a touch of sori, or upward sweep at the tip. My friend and knife connoisseur Joe Paranee did a quick video review of this one:

This wakizashi features Crucible CPM-4v, at .275" thick, and I left the mill scale on the flats because I enjoy the contrast it offers. Blade is 14" long, with a lenticular or 'appleseed' grind, and a shishi dog menuki. Overall length is 20", with a 5-1/2" handle. TONS of sori! The Hartsfield-style aluminum scabbard is lined in ultrasuede, and covered in sharkskin.

This tanto offers an 8" long, .275" thick blade and displays a gentle touch of sori, or upward sweep at the tip, and a beveled spine that's been hand finished. The primary bevel is a lenticular grind, also called an appleseed grind, and the handle is 5-1/2” long with a cool snake menuki.

A similar knife to the one above, with brilliant red ray skin and a chisel point. This is a wonderfully balanced piece, and with the proper sheath would make a perfect and formidable daily carry blade. Here’s a quick video I did for the customer highlighting some of the design elements:

This tanto features W2 tool steel, at .250" thick, with a full distal taper and hamon. Blade is 9" long, with a polished and beveled spine, and twin cranes menuki. The wrought iron guard was left in it’s as-found condition, as the texture is simply too beautiful not to use. The handle is African wenge, wrapped in silk tsukaito. Leather scabbard has a matched menuki mounted to a wenge inlay.

This is an 8" long, .275" thick blade and displays a gentle touch of sori, in Crucible CPM-4v. The primary bevel is a lenticular grind, also called an appleseed grind, and the handle is 5-1/2” long with a holly menuki and natural rayskin. The ‘Hartsfield’ style aluminum sheath is covered in shark skin and lined with Ultrasuede.

This wakizashi features Crucible CPM-4v at .275" thick, with a hand polish. Blade is 13" long, with a full flat grind, and a dragon menuki over an old growth cocobolo handle. Overall length is 20", with a 5-1/2" handle. TONS of sori! The Hartsfield-style aluminum scabbard is lined in ultrasuede, and covered in burgundy bison leather, with a complementary cocobolo panel and matched menuki under the sageo.

The “Criollo-o-Tanto”, named because I think the shape is a touch reminiscent of the Argentinian criollo, has a 9" blade of Crucible CPM-3v, .200" thick, with a beveled spine and squidgey bit under the ricasso, and ground to a very fine edge. There is a small simple oval stainless steel seppa, and a carbon fiber guard with a fluted edge. The handle is frame handle construction of Terotuf, with cream rayskin and resin-soaked carbon fiber lace. The knife weighs 11-5/8 ounces.

The saya is suede lined, and carbon fiber over an aluminum frame, and has resin soaked carbon fiber lace for 'sageo'.
